Dine in The Sea Cliff (Cliffside) Restaurants with Extreme Views

By Last Updated: October 13th, 2023Categories: Destination, Trip

If you can live up to 80 years and three meals each day, you will have more than 80,000 meals in your lifetime. Most of them will be just you sitting on the chair in your dining room and having a regular meal. Trust me, we can make some of the meals unique and remarkable.

Go out and dine in some incredible restaurants, especially those cliffside restaurants with extreme views. While seating in a warm and comfortable indoors, winds are blowing and sea waves are roaring outside the window. No meal is going to be normal in front of this godsend visual feast.

If you have time and are budget-free, book a table in any of the following sea cliff restaurants and enjoy your time! Bon appetite.

A Cave By the Cliff: Grotta Palazzese Restaurant (Italy)

Grotta Palazzese is always referred to as the most romantic restaurant for its incredible and natural atmosphere.

Whoever started this restaurant is an absolute genius – a restaurant in a sea cave. While having some tasty Italian food in your mouth, you can hear the roaring waves, smell the salty wind, and see the glossy sea. You’re surrounded by the magic of the ocean.

To be honest, I don’t really have to introduce anything about it. I’m sure that it will win your heart when you see its pictures!

Before you go there, just note that it will close in winter, normally starting in November, and will reopen in spring – March or April. Also, the host will end the service under extreme weather. So, before you go, check their timetable, make a reservation, and check the weather.

By the way, they charge pretty high for their food and beverage. And a lot of customers, locals and tourists, think low of their food though. Your stomach may not be served well, but your eyes and mood will surely be.

Perfect Terrace for Ocean View: Cliff Restaurant (Tunisia)

If you decide to dine in this Cliff Restaurant, you have to take the outdoor seat. You don’t take the indoor seats, it’s a waste of your money.

This Mediterranean restaurant serves all its customers with its 360° exposed ocean view. This restaurant is built at the top of the cliffs with a terrace where you can embrace mother nature. The sky is unshaded, the ocean is never-ending blue, and the greenery is lush. This is nature.

The food is typical Mediterranean dishes. The seafood is great too, though it’s a bit expensive. By the way, the beverage there is perfect. A bistro lights up your time there. Order a cocktail, wine, champagne, or any liquor,  take a seat at the wine bar, empty your mind and just focus on the eyeful blue waters

Perfect Mediterranean Experience: Nessun Dorma Cinque Terre (Italy)

Queueing is common, but it’s all worth it.

Located at the steep cliffs of the Italian Riviera, Nessun Dorma Cinque Terre is a perfect place to enjoy the beautiful Mediterranean sea. The ocean, the wind, the sunshine, and the rocks tell every cell of yours that this is Italy.

Everything is so natural with no fancy and modern decoration at all.

Some tables, chairs, palm trees, sunshades, and railings constructed with iron wires, that’s all you find there. And that’s fair enough. Sea waves crash the rocks a short distance away, the sun shines overhead, and you sit on the chair. This is heaven.

The harsh sunshine may be unpleasing since outdoor seating is the only way served here. Don’t worry, there’s enough shade, fans, and ice that will get you out of the burning summer days.

The food here is just rural cuisine. Nothing complex, just cheese, bread, bruschetta (the Tri Colore is the best-selling and recommended by the host and customers), vegetables, and meat platters are available there. Don’t worry, everything is tasty there even though it’s easy.

By the way, they don’t sell pizza and pasta, which is a bit strange.

High atop the rugged cliffs in Big Sur – almost a thousand feet above sea level, the Sierra Mar is a perfect spot to get close to blues and greens.

Look outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, it’s the Pacific Ocean with a clear view. The sky and sea merge together in the distance -this is what you can see when you dine in this restaurant that is located at the westernmost mountain.

Apart from the blue sea and sky, you can also wander among all the greeneries around the restaurant – the Post Ranch Inn resort. The founder has created a fairy-tale-like garden there. Bring your family there – your parents, partner, or kids. Nothing is more comfortable than walking in the middle of a green and gold(sunshine) garden with your loved one.

Tip: Better arrive there in the afternoon. First of all, take a walk in the garden. Then, seat in the restaurant and appreciate the wonderful view of the sunset. Trust me, seeing the sun going down from the cloud and disappearing in the distance is so great. It’s like the sun going into the sea.

A Party in Ancient Greek Style: Cocina Del Mar (Mexico)

Dining in Cocina del mar in Mexico made me feel like I was attending a ball that was held by an Ancient Greek noble in Crete or Sparta. After you walk through the path, across the beach, finish the ladders and reach this restaurant, you will have the same feeling.

Everything in this restaurant is so original – stone and wood are the two major elements that make this place. The stone pillar, fence, floor, ladders, wooden tables, chairs, pavilion roof – everything is covered by this “ancient” grey. Paired with the raging tide, this is just a restaurant by the Aegean Sea.

I don’t if this is what the founder would like it to be or what. But this tendency towards idolizing the ancients really makes it different. Simple and unconstrained.

These are some of the cliffside restaurants that you’d better visit once in a lifetime. Just pay attention that most of these restaurants are abroad. Be well prepared before you fly there!
